The Fredericksburg Voter Registrar has announced that in-person voting on May 19th will take place at only ONE LOCATION – Dorothy Hart Community Center (408 Canal Street)

If you normally vote at a different polling place, those places will remain closed on May 19th.

Everyone who chooses to vote in-person on May 19th will vote at Dorothy Hart Community Center.

Why?

• There is a drastic drop in the number of volunteers who feel safe working the polls on election day – which is totally understandable. Many of our poll workers are in the high-risk category. As a result, most trained people have justifiably declined to work the polls. There are simply not enough people to adequately staff five polling locations on May 19th.

• Dorothy Hart Community Center is the only polling location that is available and can handle in-person voting on May 19th.  All in-person voters are encouraged to vote curbside. Masks, gloves, plexiglass shields, throw-away pens and other safety measures will be used by the poll workers to protect you and themselves.

The BEST WAY TO VOTE is By Mail.

It is the safest way for you and the entire community.

And, voting by mail puts the least burden to the few poll workers and City staff who are placing themselves at risk.

Instructions for voting by mail: https://www.fredericksburgva.gov/534/Voter-Registrar

As of right now, about half of the people who have requested ballots have mailed them in.  Please mail your ballot or place them in the Red Drop Box as soon as you are able by no later than May 19th at 7 PM (but do it now!).  Remember, the Post Office has publicly stated that postage is not required.

If you haven’t requested your ballot yet, please do that now.  The deadline of May 12th is fast approaching.  You can request your ballot here: https://www.fredericksburgva.gov/534/Voter-Registrar
