I hope you will watch this little compilation of the journey we’ve been on together. Regardless of the outcome today, I am so proud of the campaign that our team put together. And I am so humbled and honored by the support I’ve received. I wanted to say thank you to all of you before we know the outcome, because my gratitude will not change, no matter what happens.
It started with a party… with over 150 friends and colleagues and supporters (and a lovely toast by my son Joel, that still makes me tear up…)
Then we got down to business with enough signatures to have my name on the ballot (in under 24 hours!) with Petition Parties all over the City.
I knocked doors, "meeted and greeted", listened at round tables and spoke at forums (the calendar was FULL).
On March 3rd we were at the polls greeting voters, reminding them to come back on May 5th and handing out “Vote for Jon” literature (we had hand sanitizer and tried not to hug… little did we know…).
All our plans came to screeching halt and the campaign took a backseat to “How do we help our community survive?”
Our team shifted gears, you saw more of me on video than I ever imagined, we used Facebook and YouTube, Instagram and Twitter – but all of that was a little hollow because we could not be together, could not shake your hand or lean in close to talk.
The message remained the same “It’s Time” even though the focus had shifted to supporting our small businesses and serving our at-risk communities – while we applauded and cheered for all those on the front lines.
During our recovery, we will still need to think about
• Intentional and conscientious growth
• Equitable housing
• Transportation solutions
• First rate schools
• Sustainable environmental practices
• Economic Development
After six unbelievable months, today is the day it is all decided.
And no matter the outcome Thank You for your support, your encouragement, your feedback, your suggestions. You have made this campaign richer and more relevant with your involvement. I cannot thank you enough.
If you have an absentee ballot, please get it in the Red Drop Box at the Executive Plaza Office Building (601 Caroline Street) by 7 PM today. If you don’t, head on over to Dorothy Hart Community Center.
They’re waiting for you.
Take care and be good to each other.
